– The work goes on! The challenges intensify. Bureaucratic grip on aid distribution by the major international aid organizations has tightened. Foreign aid workers must get permission for every trip into the delta, clear multiple checkpoints on their way and file trip reports. Satellite and cell phone communication by these workers is frustrated by monitoring and confiscation of equipment. Without foreign aid organization affiliation, the local Burmese staff and volunteers of the Foundation for the People of Burma can operate much more freely and effectively.
– With almost 400 local staff and volunteers on the ground, the Foundation for the People of Burma has mounted one of the largest relief teams in the delta.
– About 150,000 people have been reached by FPB teams with food and water, medicine, building and replanting materials and farm and fishing equipment.
– Child protection remains a priority for us, with “child safe” zones and art expression programs.
– Over 10,000 acres of flooded rice paddy has now been dredged and replanted with FPB help.
– Many more acres to go, many more lives to rebuild. Please consider another donation; our heartfelt thanks for your help so far.
